I had the pleasure of documenting Carla and Alex’s timeless wedding in Bend, Oregon. Surrounded by their closest friends and family, it was an honor to be invited into the space as well. The wedding took place at Riverhouse Lodge, which provided the perfect venue along the Deschutes River. It is centrally located will plenty of lodging, food, and activities nearby.

Carla and Alex currently live in California, but their story is quite unique. Carla is Bolivian and lived there most of her life. Alex is in the Marine Corp and was sent to Bolivia. They met there, fell in love, and knew that they wanted to spend the rest of their lives together. Alex, soon after, was stationed in California. Then came the hard and long process of getting Carla a US visa the join Alex. After months of paper work and conversations, the couple got the happy news that Carla was granted the visa! Carla moved to California and, to fulfill her visa requirements, the couple had a very small wedding ceremony.

Inviting family and friends into their relationship is so important to Carla and Alex. So, soon after moving to California and “officially” getting married, they decided they wanted to have a wedding. Alex grew up in Happy Valley, OR, and always envisioned getting married somewhere in Oregon. Riverhouse Lodge in Bend, fit all of their needs and more.

Coming from two different cultural backgrounds, their wedding was a stunning blend of both. Carla’s parents, aunts, and uncles do not speak English, so, during the ceremony, her bother translated the entire ceremony. As an observer and documenter, it was one of those moments where you just stand in awe. Watching two people, who grew up in different countries, cultures, and backgrounds, be united together.

Carla and Alex did an amazing job collecting and incorporating all of the details that mean the most to them. From the dress that Carla’s grandma purchased for her, to the personalized bar sign that honored their dog, Bruno. Their wedding fully represented them and their love. And I was so honored to be chosen to document it.
